I'm Gilriel.

I'm a Shopify developer based in the Philippines. I started in web development working with PHP, databases and business systems before moving deeper into eCommerce and Shopify.

Today I work on storefronts, B2B commerce, internal tools and integrations. I like understanding what happens behind the storefront just as much as what customers see on it.

My background

I didn't start with Shopify.

My first professional development work was built around PHP, SQL and web-based business systems. A lot of that work lived behind the interface: databases, internal tools, administrative workflows, maintenance and troubleshooting.

I later moved into eCommerce and Shopify, first through theme and storefront work and then into B2B, APIs, structured data and integrations. That earlier systems experience still shapes how I approach commerce today.

I care about how the storefront looks and feels, but I'm equally interested in what keeps it working behind the scenes: product data, customer accounts, orders, APIs and the systems a business already depends on.

Work experience

Working across Shopify development, storefront architecture, integrations and commerce operations for production eCommerce systems.

Pasig City, Philippines

  • Develop and customize responsive Shopify storefronts and themes using Liquid, React, JavaScript, HTML, CSS and GraphQL.

  • Led the migration of a B2B eCommerce platform from Magento to Shopify, including catalogs, customer accounts, order history and wholesale functionality.

  • Build reusable React components and dynamic storefront features using the Shopify Storefront API, GraphQL, Metaobjects and Vite.

  • Develop configurable experiences including Lookbooks and Complete the Look product recommendations.

  • Maintain Shopify integrations with ERP-connected inventory, order and financial workflows.

  • Integrate and support platforms including Klaviyo, HubSpot, Gorgias and Salsify.

  • Troubleshoot storefront, checkout, payments, shipping, tax, inventory, performance, compatibility and security-related issues.

Focused on Shopify theme development, storefront customization, integrations and ongoing platform maintenance.

  • Developed and customized Shopify themes, templates, sections and storefront components using Liquid, HTML, CSS and JavaScript.

  • Customized navigation, product displays, layouts and frontend functionality within Shopify's theme architecture.

  • Integrated Shopify stores with payment, shipping, social and external application services.

  • Performed storefront maintenance, debugging, responsiveness fixes, compatibility improvements and performance troubleshooting.

  • Supported bilingual content, theme updates and Shopify platform changes.

Worked across WordPress, PHP, MySQL and custom web functionality for real estate-related systems.

NSW, Australia

  • Developed and enhanced WordPress and PHP frontend and backend functionality.

  • Created custom functions and hooks based on project requirements.

  • Managed MySQL structures supporting property listings, user accounts and website functionality.

Built and maintained web-based systems using PHP, MySQL, JavaScript, jQuery, .NET and SQL.

Calamba City, Laguna

  • Developed and enhanced a PHP/MySQL manpower portal using HTML5, CSS, JavaScript and jQuery.

  • Contributed to a reported 20% productivity improvement through the manpower portal.

  • Maintained municipal and barangay computerization systems using PHP, JavaScript, .NET and SQL.

  • Handled troubleshooting, data cleansing, maintenance, deployment and end-user support.

  • Mentored a junior programmer in frontend development, PHP/SQL backend functionality, troubleshooting and deployment.

Started my professional development career building PHP and SQL-based web systems.

Calamba City, Laguna

  • Developed responsive web systems using PHP, SQL, JavaScript, jQuery, HTML/CSS and JSON.

  • Built systems supporting barangay administrative processes.

  • Integrated a digital fingerprint device with a PHP application for user recording and search functionality.

Away from work

There's more to me than Shopify.

Before

Before development took over most of my time, dancing was a big part of my life. I'm retired now, but I used to train, perform and compete in some of the biggest dance competitions in the Philippines.

These days

Outside work, life is a little quieter. I read manga and manwha, play computer games, and travel whenever I get the chance. Traveling is probably my favorite reset — it gets me away from the screen and gives me something new to look forward to.

Right now

Still learning by building.

I'm continuing to go deeper into Shopify's APIs and application layer while working on production storefronts and integrations. The Shopify Lab is where I test ideas that don't necessarily belong in day-to-day client work.
